Have you ever butt-dialed God?
I mean, accidentally called on him.Ā You arenāt trying to pray, but you suddenly feel like He can hear everything you do and say and you arenāt sure how long he has been listening. Itās a little disconcerting.
All of the sudden you are in His great presence. Maybe you thought about asking for His help in a certain area.Ā You need Him. You flip your heart open to place the call, and Whoa! He is already there.
How long has He been able to know what Iām thinking?
Or worrying about?
You feel a little silly; like maybe you should say, āOh hi! I was just going to call you, really. But here you are, already listening!ā
Or, āI meant to do that.ā (He knows better).
Or embarrassed, rushing back to consider all of the things you were thinking about your neighbor before you reached out to the Almighty.Ā All the things you said when you didnāt think anyone could hear you.
He doesnāt want carefully choreographed pleasantries. He wants the real deal.
Thatās the thing about God: He is always on the other side of the line, and stillā¦I know He appreciates it when we call him deliberately. Accidental prayer – those groanings of the spirit that happen as a secondhand thought – are prayers all the same. But we all know that when someone means to connect with you, itās always more heartfelt.
It is a learning curve, to keep in constant contact with God during the course of the day. I donāt mean to poke fun at prayer at allĀ ā prayer is my lifeline. I guess thatās kind of my point ā the setting forth to communicate with God should become a constant conversation, not a dialing up.
Bringing him my thoughts and worries ā in real time ā as they unfold.
Keeping the heart flipped open in His presence, which is always near.
Can you hear Him now?
